NEW 85m (279 ft) “WAVE” CONCEPT DESIGN LAUNCH AT 2006 FORT LAUDERDALE BOAT SHOW

Once again Fincantieri Yachts and Benetti have selected the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show to mark a significant step in their growth in the mega yacht market through the introduction, as a world premiere, on October 27th 2006, of a new stunningly attractive, innovative concept design: the 85m (279 ft) “Wave” project, developed for Fincantieri Yachts by Stefano Natucci, who played an important role in the development of the distinctive style of the most praised motor yachts built by Benetti.

The profile of the “Wave” project is neat, harmonious and elegant and recalls the profile of a wave with its intrinsic, dynamic sense of balance associated with power. A strong sense of balance is apparent throughout the vessel. The interior design is inspired by an original, new classic style which represents an evolution of the designer’s past experiences. Curved lines are largely dominant inside, matching soft colours. An exclusive feature of the “Wave” project are the balconies complementing the layout of the owner’s suite and the guests cabins.

Today’s presentation, taking place, again during the prestigious Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, where, exactly two years ago, Fincantieri announced its entrance into the mega-yacht business and its strategic alliance with Benetti.
Shortly afterwards Fincantieri Yachts, a dedicated business division with an in-house team of professionals, was created. Fincantieri Yachts, supported by a qualified group of key international yacht consultants, has thoroughly explored all perspectives and elements of this challenging business with the declared intention to pursue excellence at the top end of the mega-yacht market.

Since inception, Fincantieri Yachts has pursued an active market strategy based on three different approaches and related activities which have run concurrently:

  • the development of new concepts, designed by well-known international designers, which can be tailored to the customer’s specific requirements. Three projects have already been presented: the 70 m (230 ft) “Prospect” by Laurent Giles, the 102 m (335 ft) “Marco Polo” by Camillo Costantini, and the 115 m (377 ft) “Morpheus” by Tim Heywood;
  • the development of Fincantieri in-house designs, based on specific requirements outlined by the customer;
  • the development of projects based on proposals coming from a customer’s chosen designer
The latter is the case with “Hull 6154”, the first Fincantieri Yachts order, placed in May 2006, which has been developed by the Fincantieri Yachts team to full owner’s satisfaction, starting from a revolutionary, outstanding new design by Espen Oeino with the interiors by Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design. The 134-m seven-deck motor yacht is scheduled for delivery in 2010 at the Muggiano yard, where also the Blue Ribbon winner “Destriero” was built. “Hull 6154” will be one of the most technically advanced and most elegant mega-yachts built to date.

All Fincantieri new projects are based on a common set of features, among them, an unmistakable, unique and elegant character of the external design; an interior design providing a luxurious decor with a high level of comfort and brightness; interior layouts developed with a view to logistic efficiency and functionality; high technological contents; design solutions targeted to ensure attractive delivery dates and a high product quality.

Fincantieri projects benefit from Benetti’s vast experience and Fincantieri’s proven technological capability, cutting-edge engineering, and broad, long term shipbuilding knowledge.

Over the past two years Fincantieri and Benetti have worked together, complementing each others strengths, starting joint research, development and training programmes, defining standards and processes and selecting the key strategic suppliers.
