GALLANT LADY – A NEW DESIGNERS’ VIEW
Few – if any – owners understand the complexities of motoryacht design and construction like Jim and Jan Moran. Over a period of 50 years or more, they have commissioned scores of major projects, including no less than seven Feadships. Launched between 1984 and 1995, all the Feadship GallantLady’s had a definite signature of their own, with Jim creating a design for each exterior and Jan overseeing the interior.
The De Vries yard was therefore delighted to accommodate their request for ‘one more Feadship’, which at 51.21m (168’0”) will be shallow enough to cruise the inland waterways and park at a designated dock behind the Moran’s home. The new Gallant Lady has been built in aluminum with lightweight and high-tech composites for the upper decks. In many ways her exterior profile sees a renaissance of the most recent Gallant Ladybuilt at De Vries, while taking into account the latest developments at Feadship in terms of complex shapes.
A key new styling feature is the pointed oval design of the forward section of the three superstructure decks, which helps give the yacht a ‘sleeker’ look. Large observation wings protrude from the side of the bridge deck, which are also used for wing control stations. The views from the wheelhouse on the top level and the observation saloon on the bridge deck are sensational. On top of the wheelhouse is a semi-enclosed flybridge, adaptable to any wind conditions.
Gallant Ladyhas a modern classic interior, with some slightly more traditional elements than on previous boats. There is a dramatic central stairway in the center of the vessel, making the most of the three vertical windows. A glass-encased elevator also contributes to an impressive main entrance.
Gallant Lady’s accommodations include a full-beam owner’s suite (with private aft deck and Jacuzzi) and four spacious guest staterooms. A large air handling room forms part of an innovative air-conditioning solution, which is easy to maintain, exceptionally quiet and ideal for a boat that will primarily be cruising in the Florida region.
