Russian President Dmitry Medvedev splurged out ˆ30 million on 53m superyacht to host world leaders during 2014 Winter Olympics

In the end of December Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has purchased a 53m superyacht valued at approximately ˆ30 million to be used used during official receptions in course of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Leo Fun is the ex-name of Sirius, the name  Dmitry Medvedev chose himself. Built in Turkey, by Proteksan-Turquoise for an Italian businessman, the yacht was launched in 2009 and was used as a charter yacht in the waters of the Mediterranean. According to Turkish newspaper Vatan, Medvedev purchased the yacht after renting her for charter.

Sirius is a trawler style superyacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The yacht’s exterior was designed by legendary Italian naval architect Paolo Caliari, while “sophisticated and luxury interior features” are fruits of joint work of French interior designer  Jean Guy Verg?s Design and Turkish team of designers from  Proteksan-Turquoise.

The vessel can accommodate 12 guests in one master suite on the main deck, one VIP stateroom, three double cabins and one twin cabin on the lower deck.

Built to enjoy the water and sun, the yacht offers a good array of water toys and on deck features. She has a deck Jacuzzi for 6, sun bathing areas, gym area, a sheltered lounge area and alfresco dining area for 14 with barbecue and bar, an artificial waterfall, a cinema, DVD and wireless Internet facilities.

Built to ABS class and fully MCA compliant, the superyacht will achieve 16 knots powered by twin Caterpillar 3512B engines, each producing 1,750hp. The maximum speed is 18 knots and has a range of 4,400 nautical miles at a speed of 13.5 knots.

 Proteksan-Turquoise Yachts was established by two leaders of Turkish Boat building Industry; Proteksan Yachts Inc. and Turquoise Yacht Construction. The yard was established in 1997 to start building the 50 meter M/Y Mosaique. Following the success of Mosaique, 10 other mega yachts, ranging from 40 to 58 meters have been delivered to their owners. The two new facilities jointly will allow Proteksan Turquoise to reach a capacity to deliver three superyachts a year.
