We have already written about Alloy Yachts latest project "Red Dragon II" and now the 52m (170ft) ketch "Mondango" has commenced construction at Alloy Yachts Auckland New Zealand.
Contracted by an International Businessman, "Mondango" is the fifth yacht over 50 m built by Alloy Yachts. She has a beam of 10.2m (33.5ft), draws 4.9m (16.1ft) and a displacement of 350 tons. Like the other yachts of the company she will be built to Lloyds Classification and will comply with the Large Commercial Yacht Code LY2.
The design from Dubois Naval Architects is for a high performance aluminum ketch which represents a world luxury cruising yacht with the ability to stay operational for extended voyages without shore based support. The topsides will be majestic blue with a Matterhorn white superstructure.
The Reymond Langton designed interior includes a large saloon with formal dining area for up to 10 guests. The modern style presents a light clean timber interior in Oak and Macassar ebony. Guest accommodation provides for an owner’s suite and four guest suites, two including a Pullman berth. The crew layout has 5 cabins all with en-suites for up to ten crew.
The comprehensive flybridge is accessed from the cockpit. "Mondango"will be fitted with carbon fibre masts by Marten Spars with fully battened in-boom furling. Sails by North Sails will be handled by 18 captive and 8 vertical winches. The entire winch package will be designed and built by Alloy Yachts. The main engine is a 3412D Сaterpillar 1200 hp and she will be fitted with two 90 kw Northern Lights generators. Two water makers will each supply up to 16000 liters per day. Bow and stern thrusters will assist maneuvering in confined space. Her range is 7200 nm at 10 knots.
The Alloy Yachts custom SeaTouch system will be installed with six touch screen monitors to indicate systems and alarm status. The CCTV operates with four cameras located throughout the yacht.
"Mondango"will be flagged in the Cayman Islands and is scheduled for delivery towards the end of 2008.
