SEATEC 2008 INCREASES THE SPACE FOR DESIGN

Design is increasingly at the fore at Seatec 2008, the International Exhibition of technologies and subcontracting for boat and ship builders, due to be held in Marina di Carrara from 7 to 9 February 2008.

Hall D, the design hall, is expanding year by year and in 2008, the sixth year of Seatec, will occupy an area of 5600 sqm. In the “Abitare il mare” area set aside for companies that represent design excellence in the serial production of furnishings, there is also a stand for the Art Book Triennale bookshop in Milan and stands for design and nautical industry reviews.

At the centre is the Agor?, a meeting point for exhibitors, designers and shipbuilders as well as an exhibiting space for the winning projects from this year’s competitions. Among the numerous events organised by SEATEC/ABITARE IL MARE are the Myda competition, Targa Bonetto, the Furniture Design Award, Living on board and conferences to discuss the issues raised. A new feature this year is the presentation of the book ‘MYDA 2004-2008’, by Electa/Mondatori Editore, a look back at the first five years of the international competition.

Seatec, the International Exhibition of technologies and subcontracting for boat and ship builders, is giving even more space to design. The area set aside for design will be quadrupled in 2008, the sixth year of Seatec, in order to cater for the numerous exhibitors and the increasing number of events organised by SEATEC/ABITARE IL MARE on the subject of the design of yacht and cruise ship interiors.

“Abitare il Mare” is an area for Italian companies that represent design excellence in the production of serial furnishings. The area will also host a stand for the Art Book Triennale in Milan, an international bookshop specialised in urban planning, design and architecture (already present in 2006 and 2007), stands for design and nautical industry reviews and the Agor? – a meeting point for exhibitors, designers and shipbuilders as well as an exhibiting space for the winning projects from this year’s competitions. These will include projects from the MYDA (Millennium Yacht Design Award) competition, now in its fifth year (the award-giving ceremony for which is planned for 7 February 2008), the life size models installed by the winners of the international Furniture Design Award – now in its third year, the winning projects of the thirteenth “Targa Bonetto”, for the first time awarded during Seatec/Abitare il Mare and finally a work area for students taking part in the second year of the ABITARE LA BARCA competition.

As is now tradition, SEATEC/ABITARE IL MARE organises numerous side events on the subject of design and every year introduces new features to give professional visitors an even more interesting experience.
