Balk Shipyard
| The Balk Shipyard is one of the oldest shipyards in the Netherlands and is simultaneously a newcomer among the country’s major yacht builders. Founded in 1764 in Elburg, the business moved premises three years ago to the former island of Urk. The ‘black’ shipyard that was taken over, the focus of which was largely on fishing, has been converted by managing director Daan Balk into the present ‘white’ refit shipyard, specialising in the maintenance of yachts, patrol vessels, classic ships and working vessels. Each year, the Balk Shipyard carries out one or two major refits and several smaller ones. In addition, the attached slipway business brings some two hundred ships into to land each year for repair work. |
