The triumph of the LIMITED EDITIONS concept and the early sale of three AMELS 171s affirm our decision to commission the 64.7-meter AMELS 212. As Tim Heywood says, this yacht was “drawn by the same hand” as the AMELS 171, as it emphasizes grace and indoor and outdoor living on a grand scale.
The triumph of the LIMITED EDITIONS concept and the early sale of three AMELS 171s affirms our decision to commission the 64.7-meter AMELS 212. As Tim Heywood says, this yacht was “drawn by the same hand” as the AMELS 171, as it emphasizes grace and indoor and outdoor living on a grand scale.

But the AMELS 212 has some differences. Our naval architects conceived it as a “big 65-meter,” with very high volume for her length. She provides luxury accommodations for 12, covering some 510 square meters, including grand owners’ and VIP suites. (An alternate layout accommodates 22 guests.) The layout also provides 120 square meters of space for 16 crew in 10 cabins, a unique tankdeck staff cabin, plus a captain’s suite.
Logistics are enhanced by an elevator between the lower deck and sundeck and a central spiral staircase between the tank deck and sundeck, and separate five-deck crew stairs forward.
On the 200-square-meter sundeck the alfresco dining table for 12 is protected from wind and spray by glass side fins. A sky-gym makes exercising a pure aerial delight, while a whirlpool bath will soothe the flesh and give one a spectacular view over the bow. The jet-stream swimming pool serves as a wet-feet bar forward. An alternate layout adds a touch-and-go helipad.
On the bridge deck we have added two attractive midships guest suites with stunning views, and a casual dining area in front of the wheelhouse. On the main deck the owners’ suite forward includes a full-width his-and-hers bath, enclosed office, and dressing room. The galley and pantry serve the main saloon and an enclosable semi-circular dining room for 12. The lower deck has crew quarters forward, a full-beam VIP guest suite and two double guest staterooms amidships, and a 100-square-meter watersports store aft for two 8.5- meter tenders (deployed through port and starboard side doors), four PWCs, and a good deal more.
Research and development and structural engineering of the AMELS 212 were realized with the able assistance of the Royal Schelde Shipyard, Amels’ sister member of the Damen Shipyards Group. Schelde builds specialized commercial and military vessels, and Amels shares its modern premises in Vlissingen. Damen shipyards generally have built a number of extremely quiet ships, such as those dedicated to oceanographic research, and Amels benefits through access to the same team that conquered noise and vibration on those vessels. To further assure that the AMELS 212 is as silent as possible, we are installing a revolutionary 180-kW low-noise bow thruster.

Using Damen technology, we are also building the AMELS 212 to be as “green” as possible. Few yacht builders have such valuable technology at their disposal, which allows Amels to do everything in-house and not rely on outside sources for such know-how. One other aspect to the AMELS 212 is a refreshing approach to the interior we are making available to clients. When we asked Andrew Winch to go to his drawing board, he agreed to create a styling that can be flexibly varied by each client to assure the personalization that we promised in LIMITED EDITIONS from the beginning. Delivery of the first AMELS 212 is set for 2010.
