Transfer of 55m Picchiotti-Vitruvius Ice Class motor-yacht successfully completed

The hull of the C.2156 – 55m Picchiotti-Vitruvius motor-yacht was successfully transported by sea from the Perini Navi shipyard in Yildiz, Istanbul to the Beconcini Shipyard in La Spezia, Italy. The steel hull – complete with aluminium superstructure - started its journey to La Spezia on November 16th, the same day it was launched, at 18.30pm.

Thanks to good weather and its streamlined, hydrodynamic design, the Picchiotti-Vitruvius 55m Ice Class arrived in La Spezia two days ahead of schedule.

The journey was done at an average speed of 10 knots in light Northern winds. The hull navigated the Dardanelles, which connect the Marmaras Sea to the Aegean Sea and which, together with the Bosphorus Strait, mark the border between Europe and Asia. The following day, it started the crossing of the Ionian Sea and the Strait of Messina. The hull reached the Gulf of La Spezia in the early afternoon of Sunday November 22nd, and the next day it was moored at the wharf of the Beconcini Shipyard, waiting to be transferred inside one of three new 3.200 sq.m. sheds of the facility. This delicate operation will be carried out with the aid of the entire dedicated Beconcini team and their 820 ton “travel lift”.

In another shed of the Beconcini facility, works are also successfully progressing on the very first Picchiotti-Vitruvius 50m motor-yacht, which will be ready for launch in the spring of 2010.

The Picchiotti-Vitruvius 55m, the second motor-yacht to be sold by Perini Navi Group, will be delivered in 2011. It is being built in compliance with Ice-Class standards with the purpose of transiting the Arctic Ocean’s Northwest Passage, from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

Perini Navi Group, who entered the motor-yacht market only two years ago with the relaunching of the world famous Picchiotti brand, already celebrates its third contract for the sale, in August 2009, of the biggest unit of the Picchiotti-Vitruvius series which will be launch in 2013. The third yacht in the series a 73m M/Y - confirms the exceptional world-wide success of this new motor-yacht line designed by French naval architect Philippe Briand. Philippe has drawn inspiration from the hydrodynamic laws governing the hulls of sailing boats, where shape and volume/weight distribution are optimised to reach maximum performance.
